SEXUAL ORIENTATION
Sexual
Orientation describes who you are attracted to, someone of the same
sex or someone of the opposite sex or both. However, it is more
than just physical attraction to another person. It can also be explained by who meets the needs for you in a romantic relationship.
Research has demonstrated that sexual orientation ranges along a continuum, from only attraction to the opposite sex that you have, to only attraction to same sex as yours. Some sexual orientations are:
Male to Female and Female to Male Attraction: Heterosexual Orientation.
Female to Attraction: Lesbian Orientation.
Male to Male
Attraction: Gay Orientation.
Male or Female attracted
to both Male/Female: Bisexual Orientation.
GENDER IDENTITY
Gender
Identity describes what gender you feel like, no matter of the
genitalia you were born with. If you
“feel like a girl” but have what is considered ''male genitalia'' (penis), then your gender
identity is female even though you are “considered” male by physical
standards. There are several gender identities, some of them are:
- Cisgender: It refers to people whose gender identity matches the sex they were assigned at
birth.
- Trans: Is an
abbreviation of transgender. Trans people is not aligned with the gender they were
determined at birth, where cisgender is aligned with what was determined.
- Genderqueer: It describes someone who plays with that political sense of expressed gender. A
genderqueer person may identify as neither gender, both, or a combination. They
do not identify with the traditional gender binary.
- Genderfluid: Someone who
is genderfluid feels that their gender is fluid and can change and vary over
time. They may identify as a man one day, and as femme another day, and move in between these expressions of their gender.
- Non-binary: Is a term for people whose gender is not just male or female. It can have
different meanings. In general, this people don’t believe in binary terms. Some
of them don’t identify either with ‘’male’’ or ‘’female’’.
